The Marega Collection in the Vatican Library: A Comprehensive Study
Discovered in the Vatican Library in 2011, the Marega Collection contains documents related to Christians and descendants of Christians (ruizoku), including the documents managed by Usuki Domain’s Office of Religious Affairs, as well as Marega’s own research material, and is of particularly high academic value historically and culturally. This book was compiled to disseminate the results of research on various subjects that were found during the process of making the information resources freely available to the public to utilize the materials and communicate their potential to a broad audience.
Part I focuses on the task of transforming the Marega Collection into an information resource and on Father Marega’s own research; Part II examines the results of research on materials related to Christians and descendants of Christians in Bungo Province. The two subjects are interconnected, and further research developments are expected as a result of progress made in the respective studies. This book is the first step in this endeavor.
