Collaboration with Overseas Institutions
We will continue our previous efforts—such as including images of premodern Japanese books held overseas in the Union Catalogue Database of Japanese Texts, collaborating with digital archives, and incorporating information from the Union Catalogue of Early Japanese Books in Europe—and will actively work to further enhance information on materials located abroad.
In 2024, we launched the “NIJL–NCC/CDDP Digitization Grant Program” with the North American Coordinating Council on Japanese Library Resources (NCC) as an initiative for digitizing Japanese premodern books held in North America. The digitized images of premodern books from the selected institutions will be published in the Union Catalogue Database of Japanese Texts.
In 2025, we concluded a memorandum of understanding with the European Association of Japanese Resource Specialists (EAJRS), establishing a collaborative framework to promote the utilization of Japanese premodern resources in Europe.
Beyond enriching the data, we are working to internationalize the Union Catalogue Database of Japanese Texts and promote its utilization through personal exchanges, such as discussions with Japanese studies librarians abroad and presentations at the EAJRS annual conferences.
