The institute's library allows the perusal of documents and provides various copy services. It is also possible for users in remoter locations to access documents and copy services through the interlibrary loan system. Those not affiliated with any university can request copies directly by post, fax, or e-mail. In addition, collections inquiries by telephone and reference questions submitted by post, fax, or e-mail are also accepted.

Services offered
Collections
Microfilm, Japanese rare books (manuscripts and print editions), historical documents, printed books, photographic facsimiles, books on local history from across the country, and periodicals. (Prior appointments are required to view historical documents, rare books, special collections, and books on loan to the library. These are not available on Saturdays.)
Photoduplication Services
Electronic photocopying (including photocopying using a reader printer), positive films (excluding, historical documents)
Photography
Historical documents and other such materials are excluded from electronic photocopying.
Lending
Overnight lending of printed-out facsimile copies (some books excluded)
Lending for Exhibitions
Lending for exhibitions at libraries, archives, museums, etc.
Reference Research
Accepting and responding to questions and requests for document searches
